I know this is going to sound very cheesy, and pro

I know this is going to sound very cheesy, and probably every parent of an eleventh grader is saying the same thing right now…
But yesterday he was a little boy with a doll-like face, nervously walking into his first day of new school…
And a few days ago, he was heading off to his prom. 😅I honestly feel like I blinked.
It’s as if I woke up one morning and he’d turned into a young man.
Like Alice in Wonderland… except instead of falling down the rabbit hole, I somehow skipped the last ten years and ended up in “Growderland.” 🤣❤️
I had to promise him the equivalent of a circus, ponies, and probably his inheritance just to get him to agree to this photoshoot. 😂 But honestly… I can’t imagine not having these photographs.
In a few weeks he’ll start college, then there’ll be driving lessons, girlfriends, moving out, a career…
Life doesn’t ask if you’re ready. It just keeps moving.
So yes… he rolled his eyes at me for making him pose.
And one day, I’m almost certain these will be the photos we’ll both be glad we took. ❤️

I’ve been thinking a lot about maternity photography lately.
After 19 years behind the camera, I find myself wanting to explore something a little different.Different styling.Different lighting.Different moods.
Something beyond I created so far.So I’d love to ask you something.
If you were pregnant right now, how would you want to remember yourself? Would you choose soft, natural and understated? Would you want something emotional and intimate?
Or would you go in a completely different direction and choose high-fashion, Vogue-inspired portraits that make you feel powerful, confident and unforgettable?

“Get a proper job. Photography isn’t a real job!.”
That’s a comment I read today under a photography post from some kind of expert 😂
Wow. Just wow. 😂Would you say the same thing to a singer?
A footballer? An actor? A musician? An author? Of course not.

For some reason, people see the final photograph and think that’s all there is to it.They don’t see the years spent learning.
The thousands invested in equipment, insurance, software, training and education.The hours spent editing long after everyone else has gone to bed. The weekends worked.The evenings missed.The business skills required to keep a company running.

The responsibility of photographing moments that can never be repeated.And here’s something I’ve always wondered…
If photography isn’t a real job, why do the biggest fashion brands in the world hire professional photographers to shoot their campaigns?Why don’t they just grab the latest iPhone and do it themselves?
Why do they spend thousands — sometimes hundreds of thousands — on photographers, creative teams, lighting, retouching and production? Because there’s a difference between taking a photo and creating one.
Photography is a profession.Just because somebody loves what they do doesn’t mean it isn’t work. In fact, the best professionals are usually the ones who care enough to put their heart into it.

So no, photography isn’t a “real job.” It’s a business, a craft, a skill, a profession and, for many of us, a career we’ve spent years building. And if you’re one of the people who still thinks photographers just press a button…
I have some bad news for you. 😉
You take a camera. I’ll take a camera. We’ll photograph the same people, in the same location, under the same conditions. Then we’ll compare the results.
If photography is nothing more than pressing a button, we should end up with identical photographs, right?

Something tells me we won’t.😅

I haven’t been very active on here recently.Social media isn’t my favourite thing to do.
Apparently, running a photography business now requires being a photographer, editor, customer service department, website designer, accountant, marketing expert, content creator, social media manager and probably a part-time magician too.
A few of my clients have already been checking in because I haven’t shared any images from their newborn sessions yet. Don’t worry, I haven’t disappeared. 😆
The truth is, behind the scenes I’ve been juggling a few large projects, editing galleries, planning a new product launch and completely redesigning my website from scratch. Why?
Because Google has once again decided it has a new set of rules and requirements. So instead of spending months doing things that actually make my clients happy, I’m spending months convincing Google that I exist.
Fun times.
I’m also a little behind on editing at the moment, but I’m working my way through everything as quickly as I can and doing my best to catch up.
So if you’ve noticed I’ve gone a bit quiet, that’s why.The good news?
There are some exciting things coming soon.
The bad news?I still have approximately 17 jobs that should probably be done by at least 4 different people.
So bear with me.I’ll get back to regular posting at some point.
